During our 2022 EPA Labels Live! event we presented five informative sessions about how specialty pesticide products move from the lab to the label to the application site with a focus on integrated pest management (IPM).

IPM is a system of managing pests that involves using the best combination of cultural, biological, and chemical measures for particular circumstances to ensure that the most effective, environmentally sound, and socially acceptable method of managing diseases, insects, weeds, and other pests is used. Whether pest control is undertaken by a professional or a consumer, pesticide applications are an important tool in the IPM toolbox. Click on the presentations and head out into the field for a firsthand view of how specialty pesticides are used by professional applicators as they put IPM into action.

  1. From Concept to Commercialization: An Introduction to Researching and Developing New Insecticides: Head to North Carolina, for a demonstration of an insecticide screening program, including how pesticide products are screened to find new specialty uses.
  2. Manufacturing Use and End Use Product Labels and Their Use in the Production of A Granular Herbicide Product: Visit a laboratory in Kansas for a to learn about different types of manufacturing use products and the difference between manufacturing use labels versus end use product labels.
  3. The Science Behind Mosquito Control Applications: Tour Florida neighborhoods to see the science behind mosquito control applications and how public health officials protect people and species during application, sharing details about the planning and application of mosquito control pesticides.
  4. Rodenticide Use & Integrated Pest Management: From city streets to suburban settings see the sources and evidence of rodent infestation and how the pesticide label provides instructions on how to safely apply rodenticides while protecting non-target species.
  5. Aquatic Herbicides: Head out onto a Florida lake to see the benefits of aquatic herbicides and how applicators follow label instructions to safely apply products to aquatic environments.
